Cattal Railway Station

Description and History of Site:-
A two platform station of red brick with stone quoins and pitched slate roof. Wooden signal cabin on platform, adjacent to level crossing. Cattal station, built 1848, is on the line between Knaresborough and York built by the East & West Yorkshire Junction Railway to connect the Great North of England Railway (GNE) (later the York, Newcastle and Berwick Railway, (YN&B) near York with the Leeds and Thirsk Railway (L&TR) at Knaresborough. Later absorbed by the North Eastern Railway. The line's engineer was Thomas Grainger. The station was built by Samuel Atack to Grainger's designs. Now (2015) converted to a restaurant.
