Description and History of Site:-
Small building single storey with steeply pitched gables may have originally been thatched. Two furnaces strengthened with iron tie rods. Flue vaulted with stone slabs. Two square windows in east gable. Wooden lintels to brick-shaped voussoirs. The history of this mill, and its relationship with Marrick New (or Low) Mill is somewhat uncertain.

Clough, who surveyed the mills and produced detailed measured drawings in 1949, suggested that this mill (also referred to as 'Old' or 'High' mill was built around the chimney belonging to an earlier mill on the site where the present 'New' or 'Low' or 'Lower' mill now stands. He suggested a date of c1770.

Tyson, based on documentary evidence states that both the High and Low mills were working between 1660 and 1663, with an ore-hearth at High mill and a slag-hearth at the Low mill.
