Description and History of Site:-
The locality is bedded on Millstone Grit which shows as very small outcrops scattered across the moor. In some of the outcrops, especially at the stated NGR, there are clear tooling marks. No roughouts have survived. The only source is a legal document of 1740 which mentioned "stone troughs, millstones and other loose stones at the Dolehouse" - the yeoman giving up the lease was engaged in stone getting and working.
