Denham Hill Quarry

Description and History of Site:-
This is a linear quarry with a single working face c. 400m long in Fletcher Bank Grit. No roughouts have survived but there is archival evidence of its existence as a millstone production site. Millstones were carted to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal for export overseas. It is known to have been in operation in the 17th century with production increasing once the canal was opened.
