Description and History of Site:-
Owned and operated by Associated British Ports, the footway on the side of the bridge is part of the public right of way through the docks. Construction of the bowstring girder bridge took place in 1914 at a cost of £4,411. The bridge was to be 145' 6" long and 24' wide, providing a roadway 13' wide. The bridge was of trussed girder construction and built in steel throughout. Jane Hatcher reported in 1972 that it was hand-cranked.
