Description and History of Site:-
Hatcher Noted - Tall tower of 5 stories. Artificial crenellated battlements at neck. 3 courses stepped cornice at neck. Flat arched windows symmetrically aligned on 4 sides. Brick pitched. Steeply raked footings half-stone outside ex-entrance.
A post mill was mentioned on this site in 1707 and in 1803 a new brick structure of five storeys with four sails was constructed. It was later damaged by fire and subsequent repairs preceded the dismantling of the timber parts and working gear by the Pasture Masters in 1868. The top of the mill is now crenellated. Also known as Westwood High Mill, Baitson's Mill and Black Mill.
