Cantilevered Footpath

Caption :- A footpath has long connected Lilly Lane and Berry Lane, Halifax, and may originally have served Lilly Mill which is known to pre-date 1608. With the construction of the Halifax branch of the Calder and Hebble Canal in 1828, a secure route for the footpath around the Navigation Company's wharf was required, and it seems that the present dog-leg around the Nestle site and the cantilevered walkway may both originate from that date; certainly it is shown on the first edition Ordnance Survey map surveyed in 1847.
