Red Cross Brewery

Caption :- Built circa 1873 by John Brook Booth to replace the former Railway Brewery in Birds Royd. A limited company was formed by a consortium of maltsters and innkeepers from Mirfield in 1874 with a share capital of £10,000 to purchase the business. John Brook Booth returned in partnership with a Mr Ogden during 1876, though by 1884 the business was acquired by a Mr Prynn who built up a small tied estate of nine houses prior to its sale in 1889 to Samuel Webster & Sons Ltd. Following closure by Webster, the buildings were used by an engineering company and now form part of the wire fence making factory of Siddal & Hilton. This engraving shows the premises circa 1890.
