Stocks Delfs

Description and History of Site:-
This is a low ridge of glacial till from 1-4m above the surrounding surface extending over an area c. 200m by 60m. Its hummocky nature indicates the extent of delving here for limestone cobbles over centuries. No kiln sites have been identified. This industry is known from at least the 17th century and is probably even older. The boulder pits were marked on OS First Edition mapping.
