Guest and Chrimes

Description and History of Site:-
Rotherham and Doncaster are centres of the plumbers' brassware foundry trade. This stems from the invention of the modern high pressure screw-down tap by Edward Chrimes of Rotherham in 1845. The Chrimes brothers' brass foundry was expanded to exploit this and became Guest & Chrimes in 1847. They built this works from 1857 as a brass and iron foundry and were still here in 1994. Other products included hydrants, stopcocks, valves and meters for gas and water supply. Buildings boarded up and derelict in 2014. Currently (2017) threatened with demolition/redevelopment despite considerable opposition.
