Little Mill

Description and History of Site:-
Built for cotton spinning by 1805 and in 1811 housed 20 throstles with 72 spindles each.
In 1841 the two storey mill measured 63 feet by 17 1/2 feet inside and held two 20 foot water wheels, one on each floor. By that time it had been converted to spin with 500-600 spindles for spinning coarse flax and tow. Textile production may have stopped then and it became a saw mill. Shown on the 6" OS map of 1848, but had disappeared by 1889. This mill was run by Daniel Garforth & Co for spinning cotton from 1805 or before as he bought flyers and spindles from Hattersley's of Keighley in that year. In 1822 John Patrick bought the mill in 1822 and ran it in tandem with his other mill just down the valley. The mill was to let in 1841, but in a bad time for trade was turned into a saw mill.
