Castle Mill Bridge

Description and History of Site:-
The latest of several bridges that once crossed the river Foss at this point, the modern bridge was officially opened on November 22, 1956, by Hugh Molson MP the then joint parliamentary secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Aviation. It was built to carry the York inner ring road. From photographs at the time, it appears that the northern carriageway was built first, alongside the existing bridge. Once complete, the old bridge was demolished and the southern carriageway constructed in the same position as the earlier bridge.
