Hackness Corn Mill

Description and History of Site:-
Two storey mill and loft in stone and pantile. C18 with c1800 modifications. Very old machinery in situ with wooden cogs, shaft etc. Three pairs of stones. Large 18' iron overshot wheel made by 'Horsefield, Leeds, Engineers' and installed c1890. The mill was working by water until c1972, the machinery in working order, but 'jumping' and causing the building to vibrate too much so the farmer, though enthusiastic, no longer runs it using water. (Hatcher, 1974)
