Birstwith Bridge

Description and History of Site:-
Single arch very narrow bridge. Cobbled path. Parapets terminate in little piers with pyramidal caps. At each end of pathway two short 'columns to restrict width of traffic using the bridge even further carved with grooves almost like a fluted column. No ribbing under bridge. Tall narrow voussoirs. Projecting course then parapet then projecting flat coping. Beautiful house nearby with mullioned windows and string course dated 1683. (Hatcher 1975).
Bridge crosses the River Nidd.
