Reeson's Mill

Description and History of Site:-
A rare example of a combined wind and watermill built-in 1802 by James Middleton of Hibaldstow, millwright, the top storey to the tower was added in 1837 for James Tenney. Engine-house to the north built 1912. Such mills were constructed to maximise the energy potential from the two major power sources for milling available before the advent of reliable steam power in the l830s.

Of the 13 examples recorded in a survey of 1965, only seven were surviving as upstanding buildings and of these only 3, including Hibaldstow, retained any machinery.

A fuller description is given in Dolman site 60.
