Greta Bridge

Description and History of Site:-
The 24.7m span masonry arch bridge (now bypassed by the A66 trunk road) was built in 1789 over the River Greta just south of its confluence with the River Tees. It has an stone colonnaded balustrade. Visited by Hatcher in July 1975 when it was noted as being:- Fairly narrow single arch. Roll moulding above voussoirs. Balustraded parapets. Sandstone. Solid abutments with no balustrade. Architect was Robert Carr of York.
