Shay Lane Mill

Description and History of Site:-
Water powered cotton mill with steam engine added.
In 1833 the mill had a 14 hp steam engine and a 14 hp water wheel. In 1833 W & L Dewhirst & Co said that the mill was built or applied to cotton spinning in 1793. Firms at the mill may have been Mathewsons in 1811, then James Kershaw, but from 1822 or earlier William Dewhirst occupied this mill. Marked as 'Disused' by 1908.
