Warehouse, Dispensary Walk

Description and History of Site:-
The site comprises two buildings, one wholly facing Dispensary Walk, formerly a Sunday School, remodelled for use as a wool warehouse, and the other, a purpose-built, four storey wool warehouse with an attic, erected in 1877 to the designs of James Farrar, architect. Benjamin, William and James Pickles of Thornton, trading as Jabez Pickles and Sons, wool and waste dealers acquired property at the junction of Upper Kirkgate and Dispensary Walk for the erection of a new wool warehouse. A former church Sunday School was also sold to them in 1907. In 1936 the premises were occupied by Messrs. Dickie and Blagborough, wool and waste merchants, and in recent times the building has been occupied as a children's nursery.
