Description and History of Site:-
Early cotton spinning mill on the river Calder. Tenant, Samuel Chatburn bankrupt in 1806. He had been a cotton spinner, dealer and chapman. His machinery included four new throstles with120 spindles each. Mill may have been owned by William Sutcliffe.
A later occupier was John Wright who was there from the 1820s until about 1834. The mill was then called Hebble End Mill. It had a 10 hp water wheel driven by the river Calder and employed about 46 people.
