New Holland - Town

Description and History of Site:-
A planned new town, New Holland was the creation of the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway and served as the terminal for their ferry service across the Humber to Hull. The ferry service continued to operate until the opening of the Humber Bridge (EYK 00251) in 1981.

Manchester Square of 1849-50 is some the of earliest housing along with the Yarborough Hotel. The railway also constructed other support facilities at New Holland including a locomotive shed a laundry.
