Salterhebble Bottom Lock

Caption :- Calder and Hebble Navigation. Salterhebble lower lock is one of three along the short stretch of the Long Lee cutting engineered in 1815/6 by long term superintendent and resident engineer, Thomas Bradley of Halifax. This lock is unique on the Navigation in possessing an electrically operated steel, guillotine bottom gate, necessitated during the 1930s by the widening of the Stainland Road. It was manufactured by Ransome and Rapier of Ipswich in 1938. The recesses for the earlier mitre gates can still be seen. Photo. July 2016.
