Salterhebble Middle Lock

Caption :- Calder and Hebble Navigation, Salterhebble Middle Lock; construction was proposed by John Smeaton c1779 and supervised by William Jessop as a replacement for part of a staircase lock of c1767 by James Brindley. The works were probably executed by William Brassey, appointed at that time as replacement resident engineer to the Navigation Company, and completed in 1783. The lock is constructed of large ashlar blocks with stone copings. Photo. July 2016.
