Jonas Woodhead

Description and History of Site:-
Jonas Woodhead, previously of Bradford, moved to this site c1892 after purchasing the land from the bankrupt Perseverance Ironworks (WYK01439). Manufacturers of a wide range of ironmongery, but by 1920 came to specialise in components for the automotive, tramway and railway industries especially laminated springs and axles. Active through most of the 20th century, the firm was involved in a rather complex series of mergers and acquisitions finally to become ThyssenKrupp Woodhead, to manufacture automotive coil springs (from 1999). The factory, which by this time had expanded into the adjacent site of the Viaduct Tannery, closed in 2015 after a serious flood. The site is currently (2019) cleared and awaiting development.
