Description and History of Site:-
Built in 1831 by Joseph Shackleton, previously occupier of the water powered Mill Green corn mill. Shackleton became the first president of the Leeds Corn Miller's Association, possibly the first institution of its kind in England. In 1888, at the time of publication of 'The Industries of Yorkshire' the mill, together with the outhouses, engine and boiler rooms, stables and offices was said to cover more than 2,000 square yards and employed twenty hands. This mill was an early adopter of the 'roller' milling process which came to replace the less efficient milling of flour between flat mill-stones.
