Description and History of Site:-
Built by Benjamin Hallewell, wine and spirit merchant, in 1851 on land bought from the Wormald family. The land previously had only stables on it. In 1860 it was bought by John Young for £11,000; he had 26 employees in 1861. In 1882 a bottling plant was added. Sold in 1887 to John Gordon. In 1891 it became the Albion Brewery Ltd. In 1894 John Gordon & Co. had had a 10 h.p. beam engine, and the estate covered 3,112 sq. yards. It was then valued at £14,663, and it was stated that 'the water supply has not been known to fail'. The brewery was still occupied by the Albion Brewery Co. Ltd. in 1914. It closed in 1933 and was demolished in 1939. The site was at the southern end of what is now (2017) the Merrion Centre.
