Hemingfield Colliery

Description and History of Site:-
Colliery sunk 1842-3 for 5th Earl Fitzwilliam. Stone Cornish engine house with gabled/flat roofed stone building. Engine house converted to residential by 1994. Small concrete headgears for use as pumping pit disused but extant (1994). Other derelict buildings on site. Row of eight cottages across lane. Large basin and wharf laid in ashlar blocks on branch of Dearne and Dove Canal.

Upgraded by Historic England from Grade II* to Scheduled Monument in 2020.
