Description and History of Site:-
Terraced housing belonging to the nineteenth century mining community. More familiarly known as “Magraâ€, this small community developed as a result of South Skelton ironstone mine being built in the 1850s and originally consisted of the two terraces of houses forming an L-shape on the hillside. Marked on the OS 6" map of 1856, but not so developed as it was after the opening of the adjacent Stanghow Ironstone mine in the 1870's when the larger community which now exists came into being.
