Reeth Mill

Description and History of Site:-
Two storey mill not of architectural quality except for strange round corner. Very flat stone roof. Next door pretentious house consisting of five bays of six bay block with millstones over lintels of very large tall sash windows. Sixth bay has not been upgraded in the same way nor cement rendered. In field behind the mill large, clumsily elaborate mill race, stone built, cement rendered. Further back up field a more conventional stone mill race perhaps similarly upgraded when turbine installed. Weir at SE 039 997. Rather long mill race for a small mill. (Hatcher 1975). Owned by a man called Burton of Askrigg & Reeth Electric Company, according to neighbour mill was latterly used for generating electricity with a turbine by the same man who did likewise at Grinton and Askrigg mills. Water went to the Sawmill at SE 041 993. Disused in 1973, refurbished and used as a holiday let in 2017.
