National Radiator Works

Description and History of Site:-
The National Radiator Company was formed in the UK in 1905 in order to establish a manufactory for the casting of iron radiators and boilers of the American type. A greenfield site was chosen in North West Hull. Building commenced in March 1906 and the factory was in production by December of the same year. After progressive expansion up until the 1920's it was decided that UK designs would be more suitable than the heavier US designs and the foundry rebuilt in 1929. In 1934 the company name was changed to the 'Ideal Boilers and Radiators Co', with further expansion of the site and range of products manufactured, and more emphasis on domestic installations including the manufacture of vitreous enamelled cast iron baths from 1935. The production of cast iron baths and radiators continued into the 1970's. The old foundry was demolished in 2006, though some manufacturing continues on the site (2017).
