Packsaddle Bridge

Description and History of Site:-
This is a single span bridge with a low segmental arch and a single run of sandstone voussoirs with sandstone-masonry approaches each side set on limestone bedrock. the bridge has no parapets and shows no signs of having been widened. It was restored by the National Park Authority few years ago. It is c. 8m long by c. 2m wide. It is usually described as a packhorse bridge but there is no factual basis for this.It sits more or less underneath Dent Head Viaduct which towers above it.
Nothing of detail is known but it has the appearance of an 18th-century bridge, on the old Dentdale road.
